The first ever Islamic Crafts Fair in Brighton and Hove

To raise money for the BHMF Arabic Supplementary School

10am-5pm,
Sunday 10th July
Brighton Marina

Stalls include: Islamic arts and crafts, halal food and drink, books,
Middle Eastern clothes, audio cds and tapes, hand made glass ornaments
and much more...

Ten to fifteen thousand visitors are expected, and there has been much interest from local media, Islamic magazines and BBC Southern Counties radio.

There will also be a bouncy castle, balloons and entertainment for
children - something for all the family.

About BHMF

The Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum was formed in 2004 to bring
together the different mosques and university Islamic societies in
Brighton and Hove. Working for the Muslim community, the forum
organises Arabic classes for children, Eid parties, school visits to
the mosque, interfaith work and educational projects, to name but a
few.

About the Arabic Supplementary School

The Arabic Supplementary School is a Saturday school for children aged
5 to 12 that enables children to learn the Arabic language in a safe
and fun environment. Since the school launched in January, demand has
been high, and the school has been a huge success. However, the school
is expensive to run, and the purpose of the craft fair is to raise
money to help cover the costs of the school.

BHMF Visits Schools

Members of the Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum have recently been invited to visit local schools to talk about Islam. The visits have proved highly popular with children and teachers, allowing pupils to gain an interactive experience of a different faith, rather than learning about it through books.

The visit begins with a talk, explaining the basics of Islam, and giving the children a chance to ask questions. Objects such as prayer mats and pictures of the Ka'ba are also brought along to show the children.

BHMF have also helped organise visits to the local mosques, allowing the children to see the place of prayer, and showing them the ablution area and how the ritual ablution (wudu) is performed.

Interfaith Art Project Photos

The interfaith art project was a collaboration between Brighton and Hove Reform Synagogue, the Muslim Forum and local schools. Jewish, Christian and Muslim children took part to create an artwork representing Peace, Love and Justice.

The finished painting is to be displayed in the new children's wing of the hospital, God willing.
