A Gateway to History' Sunday 23rd October 2005

We would like to invite you to a special event 'A Gateway to History'taking place on Sunday 23rd October 2005 at the Dome Foyer Church Street,from 2pm - 7pm, as part of Black History Month event.
This year the Brighton and Hove Black History Project is collaborating withthe Chattri Memorial Group and the Hindu Women's Group to create an eventthat explores and celebrates the contribution that people from differentethnic minority communities have made to our city over the last 500 years.
Did you know that over 1.27 million Indian, African, West Indian and Chinesefought side by side with British soldiers during the First World War andthat Brighton and Hove was a hospital town for wounded soldiers?Many thousands of men were cared for in specially converted hospitals inBrighton and Hove; The Royal Pavilion, The Dome, The Corn Exchange, TheBrighton General Hospital and York Place School were adapted to accommodatethe Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims,
Did you know that the entrance to the Royal Pavilion from the south was agift from the people of India to the inhabitants of Brighton and Hove forcaring for her wounded?Come along with all the family including children, and find out about thisfascinating local history through an exhibition, music, workshops, foodfilms and much moreThere will also be opportunities to participate in and learn about otheraspects of Black history,

National Demonstration, 24th Sept

Stop the War Coalition with CND and MAB have called a National Demonstration to Stop the Bombings, Stop the War, Bring the Troops Home, Defend Civil Liberties and Defend the Muslim Community. Saturday 24th September, 1pm, Central London. More details available soon.

Sussex Action for Peace has booked transport from Brighton to London for the day, and they are asking everyone to travel up together, to show the unity and collective spirit which has characterised all our protests- no less important now than it was on 15 February 2003.

The coach tickets are available for £8 / £ 6 conc. at the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre, opposite. Brighton station.
