Asia Earthquake: Pakistan; India; Afghanistan
The death toll of the earthquake now stands at 33,000. The 7.6 magnitude quake struck near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, destroying buildings, wiping out entire villages and triggering landslides. In Muzaffarabad alone, 11,000 have been confirmed dead. The UN has raised its estimate of the number of people made homeless from
2.5million to four million.
The Mayor of Brighton & Hove has kindly agreed to open a book of condolences in both town halls. We request that you help with using your contacts tand help raise the profile of this appeal.
Brighton & Hove Muslim Forum Sabri Ben Ameur and Tariq Jang have been in contact with all the mosques in Brighton & Hove to request that fundraising takes place during the main payers and requested brothers and sisters to prayer for the victims of this disaster. Many families in the UK have been affected as over 60,000 Kashmiris currently live in the United Kingdome.
Community leaders have sent messages of symapthy for the victims of this tragedy. Bishop John Hind requested that a message be passed on to members of the communities that they will be remembered in prayers, the Bishop also mentioned that "I am glad to see how at a moment of great human suffering adherents of different faith communities are expressing solidarity in both spiritual and material ways. May God bless us all and draw and keep us close
to each other."
