New Acting Chair for BHMF
Tariq Jung, previously the community advisor for BHMF, has been appointed acting chair of the Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum. Sabri ben Ameur recently stepped down as chair of BHMF, having been in charge of the forum for well over a year, because of personal commitments.
Daoud Clarke, secretary of BHMF, said "It is an exciting time for BHMF. We have a lot of things that we are planning to do, on top of the many things that we are already doing."
Recent projects have included community advisory services for schools, organising an imam to visit Lewes prison for Muslim prisoners at Eid, and a very successful Eid party.
Another major project is BHMF's commitment to securing justice for Brighton resident Omar Deghayes, currently in Guantanamo bay, as part of the Save Omar campaign. A national demonstration is being held on Saturday 21st January in central London (for more details see the website).
The current focus of BHMF effort is on helping to raise funding for the Brighton and Hove Arabic Supplementary School. This will focus on an event currently scheduled for January. More details to follow shortly, God willing.
