The Jameah Islamiyah Open Day
Tariq Jung and Sabri Ben-Ameur of the BHMF were appointed by Jameah Islamiyah organisation in partnership with Wealden District Community Network to look after the schedule for the "Open Day" on Saturday, 14 th July 2007.
Tariq Jung opened the proceedings at 1pm with a welcome speech and thanked a full house for their support and said " In a world filled with prejudice and cultural conditioning, it is very hard to be able to find people to take a moment to think about another person's life objectively".
Tariq Jung also mentioned that although the Police has every right and must investigate thoroughly any leads on criminal activities but when livelihood of innocent people is affected, we as British society must compensate these people.
To this date the cash of Jameah Islamiyah has not been returned and only after 8 months were their belongings, including mobile phones on contract were given back.
The reputation of the Jameah Islamiyah has been tarnished for no fault of their own. Nothing illegal was found, no allegiance to any illegal organisation was traced and no person associated with the Jameiyah Islamiah was charged. So far no one wants to say sorry for the huge inconvenience.
Tariq Jung especially thanked Valerie and Leslie from the Wealden District Community Network and our MP, Mr Charles Hendry for their support. Valerie and Leslie had worked tireless to help make this event a great success for the whole community.
Charles Hendry MP was invited to say a few words and he spoke of the importance of the local support and community cohesion. He mentioned the local community has always played a central role in supporting each other and today is a testimony to the efforts of all of us working to gather to make this day a great success. He also mentioned of his surprise when the Metropolitan Police arrived to investigate the school as he has visited the school on many occasions. His speech was greeted with loud applauds.
BBC South TV covered the event and interviewed many of the people who were there. The local press was also there and they had also helped to advertise the event.
This event was also supported by the Fire brigade, Sussex police, a number of local and regional Muslim and non Muslim groups. The Church of England and Islamic Relief were also represented.
Sarbi Ben-Ameur thanked every one personally on behalf of Jameah Islamiyah and offered the support of the Muslim community of Brighton and Hove at future events held by Wealden District Community Network.
The representatives of the Wealdon Senior Citizens "Partnership" approached Sabri Ben-Ameur and offered to help develop a similar organisation in Brighton and Hove. This partnership has worked very hard to help the senior citizens of the local area.
The food went down very well and many people asked when another day like this can be arranged.
